SWABI: Anti-terrorism court (ATC) judge Aftab Afridi was killed on Sunday along with his wife and children after unidentified persons opened fire on his vehicle in Swabi district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to police, the vehicle of the ATC judge Aftab Khan Afridi was targeted by unidentified men near Ambar interchange in Swabi, which led to the death of the judge, his wife, and two children.
According to Rescue 1122, the driver of his vehicle and the gunman were seriously injured in the incident.
All the injured and bodies were shifted to Bacha Khan Medical Hospital Shah Mansoor and later shifted to Peshawar. The security forces and police cordoned off the area and started collecting evidence from the crime scene for forensic analysis.
While, on the complaint of the judge’s son at Chota Lahor police station in Swabi, a case is registered against those involved in the murder.
According to KP police the case is registered against total nine people including Abdul Latif Afridi who is member of Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) for their alleged role in the killing of an ATC judge and his family members in an attack near Swabi interchange.
Besides nominating PTM member Abdul Latif Afridi in the FIR, the son of the judge also nominated four other people including Jamil, Danish Afridi, Jamal Afridi and Abid Muhammad Shafiq. Four unknown people were also nominated in the murder case of the judge.
Earlier, the District Police Officer (DPO) Swabi said that the family of the ATC Swat Judge alleged that he and his family members were targeted over personal enmity.
Sources said that Samiullah Afridi, the lawyer of Shakeel Afridi who was involved in the Osama arrest case, was a close relative of slain Judge Aftab Khan Afridi, who was murdered in 2015. Although several Taliban groups claimed the responsibility of his murdered, but the victim’s family later came to know that no terrorists’ groups were involved in his killing, but that he was killed by a close friend of PTM member Latif Afridi out of personal enmity. Five lakh rupees was paid to the hired killer. While Judge Aftab Khan Afridi was allegedly charged in this murder. And the murder of Aftab Khan Afridi is the link of the same personal enmity. This was confirmed by Saeed Afridi, brother of the slain judge, while talking to the media and accused Latif Afridi of killing his brother.
A special team comprising of cops from district Khyber and Peshawar police has been formed to arrest the culprits involved in the horrific act.
Besides this, the Inspector General of Police (IG) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr Sanaullah Abbasi also visited the site of the incident and said that a probe into the matter is ongoing and the culprits would soon be arrested.
