‘Darling’; Pakistan’s first film to premier at Venice Film festival


Pakistani film “Darling’ is all set to be screened at the Venice Film Festival in September 2020.,

The film, directed by Saim Sadiq will be the first Pakistani film to premier at such a prestigious event which also happens to be the world’s oldest film festival.

Set in a dance theatre in Lahore, the film revolves around a young boy and a trans girl. The ensemble includes Mehar Bano and Nadia Afgan of Suno Chanda and Shaslik. The main characters are Shani, played by Abdullah Malik, and Alina Darling, played by Alina Khan, a trans girl from Lahore who makes her acting debut with this film.

Saim, 28, is a Lahore origin film-maker Lahore. He is currently completing his graduate degree in film directing from Columbia University, New York.

Saim’s other films include, ‘Nice Talking to You’ a short film which was selected at South by Southwest 2019 and Palm Springs International Shortsfest 2019. It even won Vimeo’s Best Director award at Columbia University Film Festival 2018.
